General Acupuncture Clinic

Our standard clinic provides the opportunity to apply TCM theory, diagnostics, and treatment principles in a clinical setting. It offers a rich variety of clinical experiences in the general practice of acupuncture. The general clinic offers interns an opportunity to refine their acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, bleeding, and other treatment skills, as well as all the necessary competencies regarding patient contact.

Seitai Shinpo Specialty Clinic

This clinic offers students the opportunity to develop and refine their skills in Seitai Shinpo Japanese acupuncture. Students work intensively with Dr. Chieko Maekawa in her teaching clinic in Kona, where they hone their interviewing, diagnostic, palpatory and direct moxa skills. When certified instructors are available, a Setai Shinpo internship will be available on the main campus.

Japanese Specialty Preceptor Clinic

Currently for observation only. This preceptorship shift allows students to observe a licensed clinician perform Meridian Therapy.

Auricular Specialty Clinic

This clinic offers students completing the National Acupuncture Detox Association certification course the opportunity to complete their 40 hour clinical requirement under the supervision of NADA certified clinicians in a community clinic setting. This clinic provides affordable care to community residents requesting assistance with weight loss, nicotine addiction, stress management, and other conditions that may benefit from the NADA auricular protocol.

Herbal Clinic

Interns and observers focus on herbal medicine for patients referred for complex internal medicine issues. They work under the clinical supervision of our herbal faculty.

North Hawaii Community Hospital Internship and Advanced Observation Clinic

This is an opportunity for advanced observation in a tertiary care setting. Students observe clinical faculty from TCMCH perform acupuncture with pre and post-operative patients, with adult, pediatric, and obstetric patients who are referred by attending physicians for a variety of issues. Student interns provide acupuncture treatments and herbal consults to hospital staff during this shift. This clinic provides students the opportunity to acclimate to a multidisciplinary setting, and to see acupuncture utilized as an adjunctive modality with allopathic interventions, as well as to become familiar with hospital protocols and procedures.(See Catalogue for application of these hours to advanced independent study.)

Herbal Dispensary

Rotation 3rd and 4th year interns have intensive shifts in the herbal dispensary. They collaborate with the clinical team to prescribe formulae and perform treatment planning for clinic patients. They attend, under licensed clinical supervision, to walk-in patients who require prescription re-fills. The dispensary intern also prepares an inventory stock of base formulas for later use with modifications; and assists clinic coordinator with patient flow, herb stocking, ordering, and inventory when necessary.
